Marketing to Marketers – A Million Leads for Free

One of my marketer friends sent me this one.  It looked like it might be useful to you so I signed up so I could review it.  It is a lead exchange, and it is mostly marketers and people looking for opportunities.  No cost to join.  Very low-touch system – you don’t have to call anybody or send out emails, as long as the squeeze-page for your offer is automated.  http://www.MillionLeadsForFree.com/go.php?r=wolf You get leads by looking at 10 ads per day, but there is no time restraint on the number of seconds you have to stay at any given ad.  There is a lot of competition for your leads’ eyes, but if you are using a great headline and a tasty offer inside, you are liable to pull a couple of sign-ups  per week.  They say the price point on these should be around or under $40.

They also have a paid ad service where your ad goes out including bonuses to the people who sign up.  Those ads say [bonus] in the subject line, and if you wanted to sign up for that ad, you as a buyer would get 2000 extra leads per day for 30 days.  This does NOT fill your inbox with ads.  You have to go to the site to read ads and send out your offer.

Their affiliate center has only 2 tools visible.

1.) The following text ad with your affiliate id already in place:

Tight on Budget ? Not enough leads for your busines? Here’s your chance to get 1 Million Double-Opted In, Daily Verified Leads For F*R*E*E !!Come get it before they close this free offer !  http://www.MillionLeadsForFree.com/go.php?r=wolf

2.) A banner graphic that says

Marketing to Marketers Banner Image

The banner code below is <a href=”http://www.MillionLeadsForFree.com/go.php?r=wolf”> This banner code is incomplete and you will need a little bit more code to get the graphic to work right.  Keep in mind that the “r” value on your code will be your own member ID.  My r=wolf.

When you download the banner graphic by right-clicking and “save image as…”  it appears as filename million468×60.gif.  I changed the name so I could ever find it again in my file system.  To put this into a static html page you would want code more like

<a href=”http://www.MillionLeadsForFree.com/go.php?r=your-member-name”><img src=”http://yourdomain.com/images/banners/million468×60.gif”></a>

Marketing to salespeople is simple if you understand that most salespeople want a happy ending.  We all want to be able to find a way to help other people see how our product will be useful to them.  Salespeople are susceptible to marketing or they could never get up and market stuff.  We are very good at scenting when the person pitching us is playing us.  We read all the same marketing books, and we know how the nuts and bolts of the “sales process” work.  Just like with any other niche, your message has to be personal, desirable and limited somehow.  The limits have to make sense on a level at or below conscious thought.  I know of a couple of marketers who have had successful close-out sales on digital products “Only 234 copies left!!!” of a product that is strictly digital delivery.  It is a cute hook and mirrors the “real world” where physical products are sometimes in short supply or closed out.

How would SEO be useful in a lead exchange situation like this? (I hear you ask)

On-page SEO best practices, like we teach in the Black Book for SEO, are good practices for email ads as well.  People act in similar ways to the Google algorithm, in that they look for relevance of your headline or subject line, look for sub-headers and bullet-points to make your page easily readable and are very aware of padding in the page-copy.

The affiliate ad copy in exhibit #1 above is good in some ways and bad in others.

What’s Good About It?

1) It comes to the “pain point” quickly.  “Tight on Budget ? Not enough leads for your busines?”
This is the exact pain point of all businespeople.

2) It provides the solution to the problem. “Here’s your chance to get 1 Million Double-Opted In, Daily Verified Leads For F*R*E*E !!”

3) It provides a call to action. “Come get it before they close this free offer !  http://www.MillionLeadsForFree.com/go.php?r=wolf Ads with no call to action are just short stories without a plot.

This would work great as a featured ad in your e-newsletter, or as a classified ad on or off-line, with a few tweaks.

What is Wrong With It?

As a classified ad, the only issue I see is that it has a misspelling. In “Not enough leads for your busines?” business is misspelled.  This tends to be treated by your readers as a sort of disrespect.  I know this is a double-standard.  Since we see all sorts of ads and articles with misspellings in them, and are accustomed to just working a little harder to get their meanings, we may feel that a bit of “quid pro quo” is due.  However we cannot “expect” our readers to do anything of the sort.  The better your technical presentation, the less people can use it as a reason to stop reading your stuff.  I am testing out some product ads on this lead-exchange, and as soon as there is something to report on conversion rates, I will let you know.
